- Welcome to the MUSICAL PAINT BRUSH, the paint program
- that is guaranteed to bring hours of enjoyment to young
- people everywhere. The feature that sets the MUSICAL PAINT
- BRUSH apart from many similar packages is, of course, the
- music and sounds that abound to bring your creations to
- life, and to amuse you while you create.
-
- The MUSICAL PAINT BRUSH is NOT free software. In order
- to keep prices at a minimum this program is being
- distributed as SHAREWARE. What this means, if you are not
- already familiar with the term, is that you may use this
- program on a trial basis without paying for it, however, if
- you continue to use this program after the trial period has
- elapsed you must register it with the author and pay to
- purchase your copy of the software.
-
- The free trial period allowed with the MUSICAL PAINT
- BRUSH is 30 days. This should be ample time for you to
- decide if this program is worth purchasing. If you decide
- that it is (and hopefully you will) please complete the
- registration form found in the text file REGISTER.DOC and
- send with the registration fee of $25 to:

- FEATURES
-
- The MUSICAL PAINT BRUSH is a delight to young people of
- all ages because of the many sounds and songs available
- within the program. Each of the drawing tools has it's own
- unique sound that it produces while editing an image. The
- many sound "buttons" can be used at any time to add impact
- to an otherwise lifeless drawing. Also there are an
- assortment of songs that can be played while editing an
- image to keep the young mind amused.
-
- Drawings created with the MUSICAL PAINT BRUSH can be
- saved to disk and later retrieved for further editing or
- display. There is also an accompanying program, SHOW.EXE,
- that may be used to display any of the drawings created with
- the MUSICAL PAINT BRUSH. Instructions for using SHOW.EXE
- appear later in this documentation.

- INSTALLATION
- This program has been distributed in PKZIP format. You will
- need to use your copy of PKUNZIP to unpack all of the supplied programs.
- I suggest creating a directory on your hard disk called MPB, and
- unpacking the files into that directory. To do this type:
-
- CD\ <enter>
-
- to change to the root directory.
-
- MD MPB <enter>
-
- to create the directory called MPB
-
- CD\MPB
-
- to change to the MPB directory
-
- PKUNZIP source_drive\MPB10.zip C:\MPB
-
- to unpack the files into the MPB directory.

-
- HOW TO DO IT
-
- Before starting the program be sure that you have
- loaded your mouse driver. A Microsoft or any compatible
- mouse will do fine, but be sure that you are using a version
- of the mouse driver that supports VGA graphics.
-
- All of the files included in this package should be
- present in the same directory, whether on a floppy or hard
- disk. Start the program by typing PAINT <ENTER>. If your
- mouse driver has not been loaded the program will display
- an error message and return to DOS. If the program finds
- your mouse driver it will successfully start and present to
- you the main editing screen.

- use the EDIT UNDO menu option to restore the screen to its
- previous state.
-
- The SPRAY tool - Use this tool to simulate paint coming
- from a spray can. The spray color will be the
- currently selected foreground color. Press the left mouse
- key to begin spraying and hold it down until
- the desired area is sprayed.

- to the desired dimensions of the ellipse. Release the left
- mouse button to complete the ellipse.
-
- The FILLED ELLIPSE tool - This tool functions the same as the
- ELLIPSE tool, however, the completed ellipse will be filled
- with the currently select background color and pattern.
-
- The RECTANGLE tool - Use this tool to create rectangles. The
- border color will be the currently selected foreground color.
- Press the left mouse button at the desired corner location.
- Keep the left mouse button pressed and drag the mouse to the
- desired rectangle dimensions. Release the left mouse button to
- complete the rectangle.
-
- The FILLED RECTANGLE tool - This tool functions the same as the
- RECTANGLE tool, however, the completed rectangle will be
- filled with the currently selected background color and pattern.
-
- The ERASE tool - Use this tool to erase previously drawn shapes,
- or to draw a pattern onto the screen. The erase color will be
- the currently selected background color and pattern. Press
- and hold the left mouse button while guiding the mouse over the
- desired area.
-
- The MOVE tool - Use this tool to move a previously drawn image on
- the screen. Press the left mouse button at the upper left corner
- of the image to be moved. Keep the left mouse button depressed
- while dragging the mouse downward and to the right until the
- desired image is bounded by the rectangle on screen. Release
- the left mouse button. Press the left mouse button again to
- "grab" the lower right corner of the image. Keeping the left
- mouse key depressed, move the image to the desired location.
- Release the left mouse button. You can continue the moving
- process repeatedly. The shape will remain marked for moving until
- you press the right mouse key. Pressing the right mouse key ends
- the current moving process. Note that the current background
- color and fill pattern will be used to fill in the area from
- which the image was moved.
-
-
-
-
-
- COLOR SELECTION
-
- Color selection is done as follows:
-
- To select the current foreground color click the LEFT mouse button
- on the desired color from the color bar.
- To select the current background color click the RIGHT mouse button
- on the desired color from the color bar.
-
-
-
- PLAYING SOUNDS
-
- To play any of the many sound effects simply click with
- the left mouse button on the desired sound button. Each
- button produces its own unique sound. The sound is disabled
- if the MAIN SOUND OFF menu selection has been made.
-
- The first button in the row is special. It does not
- play a sound, but rather stops any currently playing sound
- or song immediately. It does not turn off the sound,
- however, as the MAIN SOUND OFF menu selection does.
-
- Note that drawing can continue while any of the sounds or songs
- are playing in the background.
-
-
-
- SHOW.EXE
-
- There is a file provided with the MUSICAL PAINT BRUSH
- that can be used for displaying your creations without
- loading the MUSICAL PAINT BRUSH program. To do this from the
- DOS prompt type SHOW <filename> <ENTER> where filename is
- the name of the file you wish to display. The image will
- remain displayed until you press any key. Control will then
- return to DOS.
-
-
